The schedule is intended to provide a general framework for attendees to use in planning their participation in the conference. By blocking out specific times for Workshops, Guided Discussions and Work Sessions, the schedule can help attendees stay focused and engaged throughout the event while allowing them some flexibility to adjust their schedules if necessary.
To help folks make connections across projects and make space for new contributors, we’ll hold lightning talks each evening of the conference. The lightning talks will be an opportunity for project teams to share items they are interested in discussing and working on during the conference, including opportunities for new contributors. Contributors who are new to open source may also want to share their skills to help them link up with a project.
We are taking an unconference approach to the structure of the event. In the schedule, you’ll notice that the majority of our time will be spent in the Guided Discussion or Working Group formats. You can learn more about the formats below:
Discord
We have set up a Discord for the conference. Please join and introduce yourself under #introductions. Please feel free to use the space to start planning your working sessions.
Guided Discussions
Guided Discussions addressing topics that affect all open source arts projects will take place at the conference. We’ll provide sub-topics under each theme then ask participants to contribute additional topics to broaden the scope of our collective thinking. Participants will be organized into smaller conversational groups unconference style. We will work with you to figure out the best way to document these conversations and share notes more broadly after the conference.
Working Groups
Working Group sessions will be scheduled during the second and third day of the conference. We’d like to invite software projects who are coming to the conference together to think about how they might want to utilize these sessions. If you’re interested in sharing the agendas and focus of your software projects with attendees who are new to open-source, please post them under the #[name-of-your-project-title] channel on Discord.
Based on our registration to date, some tools-based projects represented are: Processing, p5.js, Hydra, ML5, Wekinator, Three.js and more. We have also seen interest in the following topics which might be good to form working groups around: Artificial Intelligence, Digital Fabrication Tools, Live-Coding, New Contributor Experiences, Open Source Community Building, and Education Resources.
We leave it up to attendees to choose where and how to focus their time and attention, understanding that each person might even work on multiple things over the conference. Please feel free to move around different working groups.
Overall, we seek to strike a balance between providing structure and direction for the event, while also remaining flexible enough to accommodate the needs and interests of attendees in real-time.
All events are at the C-cubed Studios, second floor of the Shwayder Art Building unless otherwise noted.
The Committee is still finalizing the details of the schedule, but this will be the general framework.
