Lodging and Transportation

The following maps and locations should help you plan your transit to and from the conference.

Conference Hotel – Hilton Garden Inn Denver Downtown
1400 Welton St
Denver CO 80202

Conference Site – C-Cubed Studios on the second floor of the Shwayder Art Building at the University of Denver:
2121 E Asbury Ave
Denver CO 80210

Airport <-> Hotel Transportation

The airport is 24 miles from the Hotel. You can use a taxi or rideshare service for about $65 or….

Airport <-> Union Station

We recommend the Light Rail system for your travel in Denver. It is clean, safe, and relatively new. It is integrated into Google maps and related apps, but all information is here:
https://www.rtd-denver.com/
The A Line train from the airport to Union Station is $10.00
It leaves every 15-45 minutes, takes 45 minutes and the schedule is here:
https://www.rtd-denver.com/app/route/A/schedule
Directions: To get to the train, exit the Main Terminal on the south end towards the airport hotel on the Baggage Claim, Level 5. There are 3 escalators that will take you all the way down to Level 1. Alternatively, there are elevators near the South exit on Level 5 that will take you down to Level 1. From there you should see the A Line train (the only train) as well as the ticket machines. You will take the train all the way to the last stop, Union Station.

Union Station <-> Hotel

From Union Station, you can use three options:

  • take a taxi or ride share to the hotel for a minimal fee
  • walk along 16th Street for 11 blocks to the Hotel
  • walk a block to the free Mall Shuttle, and ride it to California St as seen in the image below.

Hotel <-> Conference

The hotel was chosen in part because the light rail is just 2 blocks away at the Denver Convention Center. We are giving all attendees tickets for the local light rail to get to and from the conference. The trip takes 22min on the train and a 12 minute walk at the end.
You will catch the H-Line heading to Florida Stn, but you will get off at University of Denver Station. Before you get on the train, you will want to insert your ticket into a validator so it can timestamp your ticket.

From the University of Denver Station, you can walk to Shwayder Art Building through campus, or use the Campus Shuttle that runs between the Light Rail and Shwayder. Details for the shuttle are here:
https://www.du.edu/parking/mobility/campus-shuttle

When traveling back to the Hotel, you will also take the H-Line, and it stops in front of the hotel, at the 18th and California stop.

Shwayder Art Building Access

Shwayder has three entrances, one main entrance in front with a ramp, One side entrance with stairs, and a back entrance that is accessible and goes to the ground level. There are two stairwells going to the 2nd floor where the conference is taking place. There is also an elevator going to all three floors, adjacent to the rear entrance, or accessed from the main entrance by heading right and to the back of the building.

Parking

This is a university campus, so parking is difficult and expensive. There are a few hourly rate options near Shwayder Art Building. Parking will be most difficult Thursday, and be much easier Friday and Saturday. There are a few slots along East Asbury, indicated at #317 on this map. The other option is in the parking lot at the corner of East Asbury and Gaylord indicated as L/#321.

If you have mobility needs that are not addressed here, please reach out and we can help make additional arrangements. This could include ride share credits, special parking permits, or pickups from the light rail station.
